PwC NI develops innovative service to cut down legal costs for SMEs

PwC NI is launching a new service for businesses which provides unlimited advice from the firm’s specialist employment lawyers for a low-cost fixed fee.

PwC HR Solutions helps companies avoid the unpredictability and expense of hourly rates and reduces their expenditure on external lawyers and consultants. It also protects companies from the consequences of failing to deal properly with employee issues, avoiding potential expensive mistakes whilst minimising the risk to their business.

Organisations of all sizes face increasing employee pressures and associated employment law risks, from dealing with disabilities such as mental health in the workplace, as well as ongoing issues like managing poor performance, grievance and disciplinary actions.

A YouGov survey of 10,500 SMEs found that total annual losses as a result of legal problems were estimated at £9.79bn, with respondents facing an average of 13 legal issues annually. However, only 10% of small firms told a Legal Services Board survey that they had either an in-house legal capability or a retained external legal services provider.

By finding an affordable solution to invest in traditional legal services, HR Solutions enables small businesses and start-ups to avoid pitfalls.

PwC HR Solutions is being launched at an event on Wednesday 21st November, led by PwC NI employment lawyer Mairiosa McDaniel. She commented:

Now it doesn’t have to be an expensive choice.”

The service, costing from as little as £250 per month for companies with less than 100 employees, includes unlimited access to an HR Legal helpline staffed by PwC’s lawyers who were named the Legal 500’s Law Firm of the Year in 2017. Clients also get unlimited use of the HR Hub - an online library of HR template documents, legal updates, know-how and guidance drafted by PwC’s employment law experts. For an additional fee, clients can get their own dedicated HR Lawyer who will also provide on-site support.
