Our social enterprise hub the Fire Station in London houses a complementary group of inspired organisations working collaboratively to advance social and environmental change.
The ground and first floors of the Fire Station are home to Brigade, a social enterprise bar, restaurant and venue. It opened in September 2011, thanks to a unique partnership between PwC, De Vere Venues, the Homes and Communities Agency, Big Issue Invest, the charity Beyond Food and the chef Simon Boyle. Alongside the food and drink that it serves, Brigade provides opportunities in the food industry for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Beyond Food works with people who have been at risk of, or have experienced, homelessness to motivate and inspire them to gain meaningful employment. They achieve this through four programmes: Freshlife, Get Stuck In, the United Kitchen Apprenticeship and the Front of House traineeship, Out Front. Their holistic approach not only provides training opportunities but also long-term support, advice and guidance so that each participant can move on to sustainable employment equipped with the right skills, ability, confidence and attitude.
Social Enterprise UK (SEUK),the UK's national body for social enterprise, is located on the third floor of the Fire Station. SEUK, undertake research, develop information and tools, share knowledge and build networks andraise awareness to create a business environment where social enterprises can thrive.
PwC are founding sponsors of SEUK working alongside them to build capacity in the sector and to help social enterprises demonstrate the value they contribute to the UK economy.
The second floor of the Fire Station houses the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE), a charity offering action learning programmes and courses to help individuals start, sustain, and scale social enterprises, charities and community projects.
PwC has a long-standing partnership with SSE, we’ve shared our expertise and resources to enable them to broaden their reach in the UK and beyond. We also partner with SSE on the PwC Social Entrepreneurs Club mentoring and coaching programme.
The third floor of the Fire Station is home to the London centre for Blossoms Healthcare, providing independent corporate healthcare, private GP services, health assessments and occupational health advice. Blossoms also provide support for the apprentices at Brigade on a pro bono basis.
