Flying Start Degree: Business Management Apprenticeship

If you’re undecided between university and starting your career, then our Flying Start Business Management programme offers you the best of both worlds - starting your career as an apprentice whilst also gaining a degree along the way - all without incurring university tuition fees and being paid a salary from day one.

Want to get your career in Business off to a Flying Start?

Our Flying Start Business Management apprenticeship will help you fast track your career in business. From day one you’ll be working on real client work as part of our Operate business teams in Belfast. Operate is the delivery and execution business within PwC offering clients more than just the best advisors from PwC – so our clients also benefit from a team that can help them take large scale challenges.

6 reasons to choose the Flying Start Business Management apprenticeship

1. Enjoy the best of both worlds

As an apprentice on the Flying Start Business Management programme, you’ll get to work with world-class clients and be part of our highly skilled teams in our Operate Northern Ireland business whilst also studying for a degree at Ulster University. You’ll get your career off to a Flying Start before you even graduate from university.

2. Gain real client experience from day one working in Operate

PwC has consistently been voted as one of the top employers for school and college leavers by students and apprentices, and we’re really proud of the programmes that we offer. There’s no better place to give you a Flying Start into a career in business.

Our Operate business is an experienced team of over 2,000 people, working with clients across a number of industries and sectors; many of our clients are in Financial Services, but we also work in Oil & Gas, Utilities, Retail, Pharmaceuticals and Local Government. With so much continual change, competitive, economic, regulatory and political pressures work their way into every part of business. Our clients are facing complicated operational problems, and we‘re the people our clients turn to for help to transform and deliver their complex operational challenges. Bringing together highly skilled, operational teams, we’re also continually investing across our business, including tried and tested processes and technology solutions, to make sure that we’re ready to respond to our clients’ changing needs.

We’ve got a range of teams you could find yourself working in, including Financial Crime, Customer Management or Business Operations. This could mean you’re:

  • Supporting our clients counter financial crime by carrying out due diligence and helping clients comply with Know Your Client and Anti Money Laundering regulations; or

  • You could be supporting our clients deal with complicated claims resulting from unexpected events or crisis, or supporting them while they remediate their customers with historic mis-selling issues (like unsuitable investment advice, for example); or

  • You could find yourself supporting other PwC teams implementing various client onboarding, risk and compliance processes so we’re keeping our business and our clients safe.

Regardless of your role, you’ll enjoy on-the-job training and coaching, alongside time out to study at university. You’ll have access to the same progression opportunities whether you join straight from school or as a graduate.

3. Study at one of the leading universities in Belfast

As an apprentice on the Flying Start Business Management programme most of your week will be spent working in the business, learning on-the-job. However, you’ll also attend university on a day release basis studying towards a degree, BSc Hons Leading on Customer Operations at Ulster University Business School, which will really help to give you the knowledge, skills and behaviours that you need in order to thrive in the Operate business.

Find out more about the programme on the University website.

4. Financial Package

As a full time apprentice, we’ll offer you a competitive financial package:

  • You’ll be paid a highly competitive salary of £19,500 per annum from day one, including access to a range of extra PwC benefits for you to enjoy as part of our flexible benefits package.

  • As part of this degree apprenticeship, your tuition fees are fully funded for the degree programme meaning you don’t have to worry about funding these yourself and can enjoy the perks of receiving a monthly salary.

5. Support

You’ll be supported by PwC and the university throughout the apprenticeship programme and beyond, with a Career Coach, a buddy, an Academic Studies Advisor and of course your fellow Flying Start apprentice peers.

6. A career beyond the degree

The Flying Start Business Management degree programme will last four years but will be so much more than just a qualification - it’s a fast-track to your career in business. Having truly got your career off to a Flying Start, you can continue with your progression and explore ways in which you can continue to grow and develop with an organisation who will support you to be the best you can be.
