Working in Forensic Technology

Prevention is even better; knowing where vulnerabilities are and managing the risks involved. When disputes or regulatory investigations arise, a timely resolution relies on organisations being prepared. And this is what we help our clients with every day.

You can join us in one of the following teams:

Financial Crime Analytics

Financial Crime Analytics sits within our Forensics practice and involves the analysis of vast quantities of data using cutting-edge technologies and advanced statistical techniques in order to discover insights for our worldwide clients. Our remit is broad and our aspiration clear: to be the unavoidable voice in the ongoing and urgent fight against financial crime. There can be no place in a trusted financial system for terrorists, drug traffickers, market abusers and money launderers. To stay ahead of changing crime, we have to keep changing ourselves by constantly innovating and drawing on the very latest technologies.

Financial Crime Analytics and Forensic Investigative Analytics

Join us in either of these teams and you'll get to work alongside leading professionals in fields such as Big Data, Predictive Analytics, Machine Learning and Data Visualisation. You could be looking for hidden patterns within the global payments of a bank accused of money laundering, searching for evidence of fraud and abuse within a company’s finance system, helping track down rogue traders in their attempts to manipulate global financial markets or help to identify illegal activity within millions of transactions. You may also be researching new tools and technologies and developing new propositions to take to our clients.

As a valued member of the team you will gain exposure to a wide variety of analytical techniques, providing you with a solid foundation for your career in data analytics.

Forensic Investigative Analytics

In an increasingly digitised world, instances of fraud and electronic crime are becoming more and more common. Forensic Investigative  Analytics involves the analysis of data in order to discover meaningful patterns, measure historic events or predict the likelihood of future ones. Much of our work requires us to analyse vast quantities of electronic data, using advanced statistical techniques to extract meaningful insights for our worldwide clients. As we operate in an environment where speed of response is often critical to our clients, we are constantly innovating and drawing on the very latest technologies.

eDiscovery

Searching the personal computer and smartphone of an executive suspected of intellectual property theft, or identifying emails containing evidence of price fixing. These are the kinds of challenges we tackle every day as part of the team within one of the largest dedicated forensic technology practices in the world. In simple terms, we specialise in providing the technology skills required to respond to crisis events such as legal disputes or regulatory investigations.

You’ll work alongside industry-recognised specialists in computer forensics, electronic discovery, information governance and disclosure. Much of our work centres on the analysis of large volumes of electronic data. And because we operate in an environment where speed of response is often critical to our clients, you’ll be constantly innovating and drawing on the very latest technologies.

Our engagements frequently involve us working in cross-border teams alongside regulators, legal advisers and across other parts of our wider business – providing opportunities for international travel too.

Data Discovery

We use data discovery technology to analyse file servers, endpoints (such as laptops and desktops) and other data repositories to help clients know what data they have, where it is, and who can access it. Our client offerings focus around three key areas: helping clients comply with regulations such as GDPR by ensuring personally identifiable information is stored securely and not for longer than is necessary, ensuring that intellectual property is not stored in areas or on devices where it should not be, and, finally, helping clients reduce the data they store which is out of compliance with their retention policy. Once we find non-compliant data we then help clients remediate it in order to reduce their risks.

You will want to be in a client facing role which is partly technical and partly business consulting, with the aim of working in a cross-competency team to help our clients solve their business problems. You will help our clients understand the risks that data poses at a file level to them and how we as a team can help them identify and mitigate those risks.

You will develop data discovery/search rules and machine learning algorithms for clients, working with cutting-edge software to help them understand their risks and develop the right solution through the use of technology and bespoke business processes.

Legal Technology

PwC works with some of the largest UK and international organisations. As these organisations are collecting and using more data than ever before, the use of technology plays an integral role in driving their business and serving their customers. We design, build and deliver solutions using a number of cutting edge tools to improve our client’s business and solve commercial challenges.

As we look to harness artificial intelligence, expert systems, robotics and machine learning to assist our clients, you will have the opportunity to get involved in some innovative projects where we utilise these technologies to solve real life issues. By assessing their current technology stack and exploring the ever changing market, you will help answer questions such as “Where are the gaps and what existing processes can be improved?”, “How can technology be utilised to deliver more value to our clients?” and “How can we best integrate different technologies into one solution?”

Life in Forensic Technology

When you join the Forensic Technology team you’ll receive training in a wide range of technical and non-technical skills. This can include data manipulation techniques, machine learning, big data technologies, programming and advanced data visualisation training and certifications. We’ll also encourage you to attend in-depth training led by our technology partners based on your individual development needs.
