Working in Delivering Deal Value as a Graduate

Our Delivering Deal Value (DDV) team focuses on providing support for transactions and assists clients in all operational aspects of the transaction, pre and post deal, including:

  • Pre-deal value creation advisory – i.e. where can we see value for our client in this deal?

  • Buy and sell side operational due diligence - i.e. what could be improved to unlock further value for our client?

  • Synergy development and review – i.e. where are the synergies between two businesses and how well has the plan for capturing these synergies been compiled?

  • Carve out due diligence and divestment support.

  • Taking control and 100 day planning.

  • Mergers & Acquisition Integration.

  • Post-acquisition performance improvement using our Rapid Value Creation methodology.

We rapidly develop an understanding of the target/client business in order to assimilate the key operational issues, synergies, risks and upsides around a transaction. We communicate our findings in real time to our clients as well as producing written reports articulating our findings for the buyer or seller. We regularly help our clients with post deal implementation projects including taking control of the acquired business, tracking synergy delivery plan and implementing cost reduction opportunities.

The Delivering Deal Value experience

As a graduate in DDV you will rotate through our different sub teams, which are either industry specific or cross-sector (e.g. Retail, Consumer and Leisure, Telecom Media and Technology, Industrial Products and Services, Finance, Technology etc.), and gain a broad range of experiences. At the end of your graduate scheme  you will have the opportunity to be promoted into one of these teams.

On a typical project  you will work as part of a  varied size team of two to twenty people analysing the client data to draw commercial insights and conclusions which will eventually be presented to our clients. The project manager will rely on you for effective support throughout the transaction process. Our engagements vary in length, with M&A Deal, you might spend between 2 weeks and 3 months working on a project. Our Post Deal projects normally last between 3 months and a year. Across most projects you will have the opportunity to travel, either internationally or within the UK.

Your responsibilities might include:

  • Quantitative analysis of the operational aspects of a transaction
  • Preparation of client presentations or reports
  • Liaising with multiple stakeholders, both external and internal To build strong and meaningful relationships

Outside of project work, you will be involved in business development (BD) activities including industry, or client specific research to identify potential clients or areas of opportunity. As part of the BD activities you will create pitch or discussion documents which will be presented or discussed with our potential clients.

Professional development during your graduate programme

When you join you’ll be paired with a Career Coach, who will be your first point of contact to share  wisdom and unique perspectives,  providing first-hand advice and support on anything and everything in your new role. Aside from this, all graduates will have a buddy, usually another graduate a year ahead in the programme to provide advice and support.

You will be encouraged to take ownership of your personal development journey, continually learning through on the job training and seeking feedback from different experiences. Your Career Coach will work with you to track your development so you know how you're doing and where you can improve.

A professional qualification is not included in the graduate programme, however, beyond the graduate scheme DDV supports individuals to seek out qualifications that will benefit their professional career and have sponsored qualifications such as CIMA, where the business case exists.

Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to work towards the Chartered Management Consultant award, which sets and maintains the highest standards for the management consulting profession and is aligned to "Consulting Excellence"; the MCA 'kite mark' of quality.

Hear from some of our current graduates

Grace

“I joined the DDV team in 2019 after gaining an MEng in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Bath.

I have had the opportunity to work on several multi-million pound Carve Outs for large multinational companies, helping to calculate the standalone financials of the separated entity before sale, as well as a Carve Out for a Technology company, particularly focussing on their Go To Market function. I have also completed multiple Due Diligence reports, on both the buy-side and the sell-side, for smaller media and financial services companies. These projects have enabled me to work with people from around the world and develop a wide range of new skills.

Through the graduate scheme I have had the chance to rotate through sectors within the team, helping me to meet a wide variety of people and try out different types of projects. It is this variety in work and clients which I have enjoyed so much, as well as how friendly and sociable everyone in the team is.”

“I Joined the DDV team in 2019 after completing a Master's in Management at London Business School, and an MEng in Electrical & Electronic Engineering before that.

I've had the chance to work on a Vendor Due Diligence (VDD) of a leading online classifieds and mortgage broking business in Luxembourg and a VDD of a multinational beauty company looking to sell part of its business. I have also worked on two Buyside Due Diligence projects for Private Equity firms looking to acquire Online Travel Agencies, and a QFBS (Quantifiable Financial Benefits Statement) project identifying synergies for two publicly traded property services companies. More recently I've had the chance to work on a longer Carve Out Vendor Assistance for a multinational consumer goods company looking to sell their beverages division.

My favourite part about the team is the people I get to work with. I've learned a great deal and have worked on projects that have helped my personal and professional development.”
