Paul is a Director in the NewLaw team, based in our Edinburgh office. Prior to joining NewLaw he was Senior Counsel and lead negotiator on client investments for a top asset manager for almost 14 years. Paul led negotiations on the manager’s administrative back-office transformation and outsourcing contracts and was primarily responsible for its legal relationships with the service providers for 10 years.
Paul also created and evolved Bridgewater’s governance model for the manager’s funds’ Boards of Directors, including recently leading an effort, which may be an industry first, to select and nominate professional board observers to enhance the diversity of the Boards in terms of experience and composition.
Experience:
- Administrative back-office transformation and outsourcing
- Contract negotiation with the world’s largest and most sophisticated investors
- Legal responsibility for buy-side relationships with investment funds’ auditors, tax agents and other service providers
- Partnered with the co-CEOs, General Counsel and Head of the Back Office to achieve business and legal goals, including transformation of the legal delivery model (utilising “New Law”)
- Partnered with management to train and develop the fund and client legal team that successfully delivered high calibre results for 10 years
