High Value Low Cost Gyms

The UK fitness market has had a record year with new highs reached in the number of gyms, overall market value, membership levels and penetration rate.

High Value Low Cost (HVLC) gyms are powering much of this market growth. There are 857 HVLC clubs in the UK today, up around 7% a year from 489 in 2018. This growth reflects ongoing club roll-out by leading operators, and a shift from the ‘no-frills’ model to ‘high value, low cost’ offers that support a higher monthly membership fee while keeping flexible, contract-free memberships at their core.

We’ve assessed the headroom for HVLC gyms in the UK and see potential for around 1,500 to 1,750 clubs, supporting more than ten years of further growth. To explore the findings in more detail, download our full report.
