Leigh Bates, Technology, Data and AI Partner at PwC, comments on the implications for Artificial Intelligence in the King's Speech:
“Firms are increasingly looking to leverage the potential of AI, so it is unsurprising to see a reference to the importance of the technology in the King’s speech. This reflects the ongoing regulatory focus on ensuring AI is deployed in a safe and sustainable way. The Government will aim to establish new, legally binding rules for providers of the most powerful AI models.
“While the focus at this stage is likely to be on a relatively small number of actors, it has the potential to have much wider effects on firms building on top of these models and deploying them across various applications.
“As other jurisdictions, such as the EU with its AI Act, advance their legal frameworks for AI it is clear that the regulatory approach towards AI will continue to evolve in the UK and globally.”
