What we did

Shared skills for good, across UK communities

How we did it

Mobilised volunteers, partnerships and AI upskilling

The outcome

Built confidence, employability and community resilience

Our volunteering day, One Firm One Day, saw colleagues share their skills for good, supporting AI confidence, employability, mental health and social mobility, while helping communities build resilience across the UK.

Setting the scene

This year, PwC’s annual day of volunteering and fundraising, One Firm One Day (OFOD), focused on sharing our skills under the theme of: Building Resilient Communities: Skills for Good.

Based on our support for the Keep Britain Working Review and the Government’s AI Skills Boost initiative, we focused our people’s skills where they could make a practical difference: supporting young people, people outside education, employment or training, charities, community organisations and social enterprises.

Our work and impact

OFOD is more than a day of volunteering. It reflects our commitment to using our skills, expertise, and energy to create lasting change in the communities where we live and work. This year, more than 4,300 of our people contributed over 28,000 volunteering hours, reaching more than 4000 beneficiaries across the UK and focusing on issues where our experience can make a meaningful difference: AI readiness, mental health, social mobility and environmental volunteering.

A key part of this was our first national AI Upskilling Initiative, designed to share our AI expertise with Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprise’s (VCSEs). Free sessions, led by our people, saw 215 organisations build practical confidence in AI fundamentals, hands-on application and the safe and ethical use of AI tools. This helped charities, social enterprises, and community groups improve their efficiency and increase their impact.

“Thank you for hosting such an incredible day. My colleagues and I felt welcomed and valued, and the training increased our level of experience. After the session, I immediately put what we had learnt into practice creating a fashion show outline using prompts in under ten minutes. The skills I learnt are saving us time, so increasing the impact on our beneficiaries”.

We took the same skills-led approach through our partnership with Mental Health UK, combining fundraising, convening and direct employability support for people facing barriers to work. This year, we raised more than £50,000 for MHUK, including through our largest Feel Good 5K to date, helping fund vital mental health support across the UK.

We hosted a roundtable with employers, charities and other stakeholders to explore the system-wide action needed to help young people access, and stay in, meaningful employment. Additionally, we supported MHUK’s Into Work programme providing tailored input from our people, designed to build confidence, strengthen practical employability skills, and create a welcoming environment.

Helping young people develop the skills and confidence for the future workforce remained a key focus, with more than 740 students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds supported and inspired across the UK. In Manchester, Birmingham and London, our volunteers worked directly with social enterprise founders through group coaching sessions, helping them tackle real-life business challenges and strengthen their social and environmental impact.
