Monday 20th November marks the start of a new era for PwC in the North West and the Manchester office as 920 staff say farewell to Barbirolli Square, the home of PwC Manchester for the last 20 years, and relocate to the new iconic No1 Spinningfields - the final commercial property to be constructed in Spinningfields.
PwC’s North West Transaction Services team have provided financial and tax due diligence, as well as sale and purchase agreement support, to Univar, the global chemical distributor of industrial and specialty chemicals, in relation to its acquisition of Earthoil Plantations Limited, a subsidiary of Treatt plc.
Of the 91 enforcement actions for breaches of current data protection laws taken by the ICO last year, 8 monetary penalties were issued to North West based organisations, totalling £810,000, spanning financial services, marketing/advertising, automotive and local government. With the biggest changes to data protection law for over 20 years coming into force this week, with the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), organisations risk larger fines in the year ahead if they fail to ensure compliance.
We recently hosted a session with key regional employers to talk about the "Good Work Plan", the Government's response to Matthew Taylor's review of modern working practices.

Employers from across the North West will come together to wear green ribbons next week in a new drive to end the stigma of talking about mental health in the workplace. Businesses including PwC, Barclays, Sellafield and United Utilities along with football clubs and mental health charities make up some of the organisations coming together to demonstrate to their employees that it is important to talk about mental health.

Despite some economic uncertainty, the deals market continues to perform well with PwC’s North Transaction Services (TS) team completing over 20 deals in the first quarter of 2018. Working alongside corporate and PE clients the team has played an important role in supporting market leading transformational transactions with a combined deal value of over £3bn.
