PwC comments on BEIS consultation paper on audit and corporate governance

18/03/21

Commenting on the publication of the government’s consultation paper on ‘Restoring trust in audit and corporate governance’, Kevin Ellis, Chairman and Senior Partner, PwC UK, said:

“The UK has an opportunity to lead the world on corporate governance. As the country recovers from the pandemic it's vital that any reform enhances the business environment, making the UK an even more attractive destination for foreign investment and world leading as a capital market. This consultation is a crucial step in driving trust and confidence in our reporting and regulatory frameworks.

“We welcome comprehensive consultation. For lasting change, we need a coherent set of measures and for all parties to play their role. Listening to the views of a wide range of businesses, investors and other interested parties will be key to achieving this. We’ve said for some time that we support measures that promote high quality audits, increase resilience of the audit market and maintain the attractiveness of audit as a profession. We have already taken a series of steps following the independent reviews, and will be carefully analysing the proposals and their implications.”
