Hayley Carver: Assurance for AI

What is your career journey to PwC?

I started my career straight from school, learning on the job through apprenticeships at small independent accounting firms in Leeds where I worked towards completing my AAT qualifications. In 2015 I joined Audit in PwC’s Leeds office, working on both financial services and commercial clients. Since then, I’ve enjoyed lots of other roles ranging from developing AI tools for audits to helping clients with ESG assurance, all while staying within the audit practice. My path has not been a straight line, but that’s exactly what I value most: PwC has allowed me to keep learning, build my skills and shape a career that feels like my own.

What role do you do now?

I lead our UK Assurance for AI proposition, which is an independent assurance service designed for our audit clients. We focus on building trust in AI systems, including governance frameworks and model evaluations. My role involves shaping our strategy, preparing our teams to have informed conversations, and leading client discussions on AI governance and control frameworks. I really enjoy working in an emerging space where I can help build new capabilities, drive innovation, and build trust.

What do you enjoy most about working in Audit at PwC?

Honestly, I’m not sure I ever thought I’d stay this long, but what really keeps me here is the variety. It’s not just the different roles I’ve had or how flexible my career path has been, but also the variety in my day-to-day work. In one day, I could go from talking to a client about their governance processes around AI, to speaking alongside our Audit CTO at a townhall, to looking at building out our internal capabilities. Every day is completely different and I really love that!
