Key themes emerging

Growth

Optimism about their organisation’s growth over the next 12 months is high for UK CEOs, with 82% confident about their revenue prospects.

However, this is down by 6% from last year, when 88% expected to see revenue growth within the year.

Irrespective of market conditions, there are always opportunities for growth. By investing in talent, technology and developing new business models, companies can adapt, innovate and keep moving forward.

People

61% of UK CEOs expect to increase headcount in 2019, compared with 53% globally, fuelled by a desire to access key skills.

The availability of skills meanwhile is the top business concern for UK business leaders at 79%.

Organisations must work harder to identify, nurture and retain the right skills for the continually evolving digital age.

Technology

UK CEOs agree that AI will significantly change the way they do business in the next five years.

But at this point in its adoption curve, only 2% of UK CEOs have introduced AI initiatives wide scale. And 36% have no plans to pursue any AI initiatives in the next three years.

With the fourth industrial revolution well underway, AI and disruptive technology present a huge opportunity for growth and business can lead the charge by preparing for and adopting AI technology.
