Our stories

Effective listening

As the UK locked down, our role as a trusted advisor to business became more important than ever. We had to act quickly to support our clients through the immediate uncertainty, help them find answers to critical questions and plan a way forward.

Setting the scene

The idea for a podcast series evolved from some initial client webcasts. Business in Focus was envisaged as a response to our clients' appetite for concise, digestible advice that could be accessed digitally. However, there were a number of challenges including recording all of the contributions remotely.

How we helped

From the first edition, the series provided practical advice on a wide range of issues, from looking after your wellbeing to applying for government loans and mitigating the impact of remote working on your IT systems. Our guests included industry experts from across the firm, as well as influential external speakers from organisations such as British Athletics and The Pensions Regulator. Episodes were released on a regular basis, and were timed carefully around major announcements or events. When the Prime Minister announced the easing of lockdown restrictions, which meant many people were preparing to go back to the workplace, we recorded and released a podcast on "Navigating out of lockdown" in under 24 hours.

“It has been fantastic to receive positive feedback on the quality and timeliness of COVID-19 communications. The podcast enables clients to access our practical guidance and expert opinions on the issues that matter most to their organisations, in a format that works for them. Our clients really value these insights and feel well supported at this challenging time.”

Making a difference

Since launching in early April, Business in Focus has seen high levels of engagement, with over 5,000 listens and more than 950 subscribers across Spotify and iTunes. The engaging nature of the format and the speed at which we were able to reach our clients, meant it quickly became one of our most important communications channels during the pandemic.
