To All Retained Employees of Nottingham Rehab Limited (NRL) and NRS Healthcare Limited (NRS), both in Liquidation Frequently Asked Questions Communication

NRL and NRS have been unable to achieve a restructuring and as a result, both have been placed into Liquidation. The Official Receiver, Gareth Jonathan Allen, was appointed as Liquidator on 1 August 2025. Special Managers, Mark James Tobias Banfield, Edward Williams, Helen Laura Wheeler-Jones, Adam Seres and David James Kelly from PwC, have also been appointed to assist the Official Receiver. 

Please note that the answers given below have been compiled at short notice and in an attempt to provide you with as much information in the time period available.

What has happened to the Companies?

NRL and NRS have been facing a number of difficulties over the last few months. Unfortunately, NRL and NRS have been unable to achieve a viable solution to save the business and as a result, both have been placed into Liquidation. The Official Receiver, Gareth Jonathan Allen, was appointed as Liquidator on 1 August 2025. Special Managers, Mark James Tobias Banfield, Edward Williams, Helen Laura Wheeler-Jones, Adam Seres and David James Kelly from PwC, have also been appointed to support the Official Receiver. These appointments were made on 1 August 2025.

The Special Managers will be working closely with all parties, including the staff, agency staff and subcontractors. The nature of the appointment allows the Liquidator and the Special Managers to continue to operate the business, and all staff will continue to be paid as normal whilst the position and options are assessed. The Official Receiver’s priority is to ensure the continuity of public services while securing the best outcome for creditors.

How long will I have my job for? What guarantees can be given about my job going forward?

Employees will be paid for work done, providing they continue to work. In the meantime, we are reviewing next steps and we will communicate on these as soon as we are able.

What is the effect of the Liquidation on my employment?

Notwithstanding the Liquidation, your employment continues on the same terms and conditions as before. You should continue to attend for work and if you do so, you will continue to be paid as normal.

Do I still have a job?

Yes, you do still have a job. Employees will be paid for work done. In the meantime we are reviewing next steps and we will communicate on these as soon as we are able. The message is that you should continue to turn up to your normal place of work and continue to take instructions from your line manager unless you are told otherwise.

Should I turn up for work?

Yes, please continue to turn up to your normal place of work unless you are told otherwise. It’s very important that you continue to work normally. Employees will be paid for work done. In the meantime, we are reviewing next steps and we will communicate on these as soon as we are able.

Will I be paid for the work following the appointment of the Liquidator?

You will be paid your normal salary.

What is a Special Manager?

Special Managers can be appointed by the Court following an application to manage the business or property of a company on behalf of the Liquidator when a company has gone into a liquidation.

Who is my employer?

Unless you are told otherwise, you continue to be an employee of the company that employs you under the terms and conditions of your employment contract. Please ensure that you have provided your most up to date contact details through the normal channels.

What happens to my terms and conditions of employment?

Your terms and conditions remain the same.

Will there be any changes to my day to day role?

Unless advised differently you will continue to be managed by your current line manager and you should continue to report to them. Over the next few days the Special Manager will be undertaking a review of the requirements of the business and we will arrange for further announcements.

What happens to my pension?

Further communications will follow on this.

I am a subcontractor/agency worker, what does this mean for me?

Unless you are told otherwise, you should continue as usual and further communications will be sent in the coming days via the projects you are working on. You or your employer will be paid for the work that you do.

How will you communicate with us?

Working with appropriate employee representatives, we are aiming to set up employee representative calls as soon as practicably possible which will enable us to continue to engage with the appropriate and affected employees and can more easily have an open dialogue about ongoing developments. Your views and suggestions will be welcomed. All employees will receive notification of the liquidator appointment by letter. It’s important that your address details are up to date or you may not receive this letter, please update your address using the usual procedures.

We will also continue to keep you updated via further announcements and communications.

What will happen to my outstanding wages I am owed/ arrears of wages?

All outstanding wages will be paid. You should expect these as normal.

Will annual leave still be allowed to be booked / taken?

Existing holiday bookings will be honoured. Any future holiday bookings will need to be authorised and requests should be submitted through your line manager.

Can I obtain an employer reference?

The Company has records in relation to your employment and you should make any request for a reference in the normal manner.

Will you be consulting with me throughout the process?

Yes, we aim to provide regular and meaningful updates, either to you directly or through your employee representatives.

What happens if I am offered new employment by a different employer?

This is a personal decision for you and the Liquidator and Special Managers are unable to advise. However, if you have any concern regarding approaches made to you while on site or on duty, please contact uk_nrs_employees@pwc.com.
