Manchester Airport embraces change with PwC, driving transformation in infrastructure, customer experience, and regional growth while maintaining operational continuity.

Setting the scene

In the aftermath of the Covid pandemic, Manchester Airport sought to reignite its transformation plans - aiming to expand its capacity, modernise its facilities, and enhance its customer experience. 

The transformation presented a dual challenge: evolving as a leading international hub while continuing daily operations seamlessly. The airport needed strategic support to handle current demands and future growth opportunities while contributing to regional economic sustainability.

Collaboration sits at the heart of our transformation and PwC has had a key role in that collaboration. As Manchester Airport grows, there’s a huge halo effect for the regional economy.

Our work

We have a long-standing relationship with Manchester Airports Group, strengthened over the years through our delivered work and collaborative projects supporting our shared ecosystem. As a valued client and key contributor to regional and national economic growth, we’re proud to have supported the airport's transformation. 

Technology played a pivotal role, not only in facilitating the transformation but also in maintaining operations during it. As airports don’t close while they transform, it was key to understand their customers better to allow them to engage more effectively and improve the service. 

Our sector-focused approach leveraged significant capital investment and strategic expertise, ensuring the project was executed efficiently across multiple layers, from planning to stakeholder engagement.

We partnered with Manchester Airport on the transformation of its infrastructure, capacity, and customer experience – through cost management and optimal allocation of financial resources.

Our impact

We supported the transformation of this major capital and infrastructure project by implementing effective cost-management measures and ensuring optimal allocation of financial resources. 

We also facilitated stakeholder alignment to maximise return on investment and achieve project goals. Additionally, we realigned the workforce strategy, assessing and adjusting roles and skills to ensure the organisation was prepared for both the transformation phase and ongoing operations.
