PwC comments on UK M&A activity for September - December 2023 published by the ONS
Lucy Stapleton, UK Head of Deals, said:
“The UK saw less M&A activity last year compared to the previous year reflecting the difficult market conditions dealmakers faced to get deals over the line in 2023 and evident in the Q4 data.
“While the macroeconomic environment is still challenging, overall, we are in a much better place than we were a year ago with inflation steadily falling and while interest rates are still higher than recent times, they have stabilised.
“Improving economic conditions, pent up demand and the appetite we are seeing from businesses to do deals should see the market recover this year with the most robust areas of the market, underpinned by societal megatrends such as healthcare, AI and net zero driving activity.”
