Building change excellence: L&G and PwC’s Managed Service collaboration

L&G collaboration

Our role

Strategic partner for Group-wide change in Managed Services

Our deliverable

Building world-class change & transformation with advanced technology

The outcome

Empowered L&G’s strategy with effective, controlled transformation

Over the past five years, we’ve worked hand-in-hand with L&G to design, build, and operate a robust Change & Transformation Managed Services Capability - delivering impact, agility, and measurable results across its business.

Setting the scene

Five years ago, Legal & General (L&G) recognised a strategic opportunity to maximise the return on investment across its change portfolio by driving greater consistency in execution.

In collaboration with PwC and powered by our Transformation Managed Service, L&G initiated efforts to enhance its transformation capabilities, resulting in a scalable and efficient change system across the organisation with a particular focus on Group functions.

Our work

To address the opportunities in L&G’s change delivery, we partnered to co-create and implement a flexible yet structured Group Functions transformation operating model. This collaboration laid the groundwork for developing a robust transformation Managed Service.

Strong foundations: we embraced a partnership model, integrating PwC and L&G teams. Capacity was built through a tailored PwC-to-client coaching and buddying system, enriching L&G employees with training at PwC Change Academies and offering a comprehensive curriculum to enhance skills across change teams.

Harnessing technology: we drove standardisation in data capture and reporting, leading to faster insights and more effective decision-making. We integrated an intelligent change delivery engine, which offered adaptable capacity and capability, ensuring sustainable, secure, and effective transformation processes and controls.

In our five-year engagement with L&G we established and ran its change and transformation managed service capability – leading to data standardisation to improve decision making while improving the capability and capacity of its internal change teams.

Our impact

Since the beginning of our partnership in May 2020, L&G has achieved sustained and impactful transformation milestones. This includes the delivery of an enhanced transformation operating model, which has notably improved the capability and capacity of their internal change teams. Moreover, consistent and efficient processes have been implemented, resulting in a notable increase in green audit scores across their change portfolio.

Throughout this period, over 150 PwC professionals from Consulting, Operate, Actuarial, and Risk have collaborated to deliver more than 15 discovery engagements and 55 programs and projects, all within a cost-efficient Managed Service framework. Our continued support has enabled L&G’s Group Change Function to effectively address various business imperatives, including those related to regulatory compliance, new business development, and operational improvements.

I’m proud of the work that we have done together with PwC to develop the Group Change partnership to the level it is today.
