Our audit teams are relentlessly focused on delivering consistently high-quality audits, which means reading lots of practical guidance on common and emerging matters.
Harnessing the power of GenAI, we developed a new tool called ChatAssurance to help our teams find the information they need quickly. This chatbot allows people to ask accounting and reporting questions as they would a team member. It then searches our trusted PwC sources of guidance to provide a summarized response, with links to where the answer was found.
This makes it really easy for our teams to locate the source material and get the answer they need quickly.

Before launching ChatAssurance to our audit practice, we needed to evaluate whether the answers were accurate, robust, and consistent with our PwC interpretations of the accounting requirements.
I was part of the team of accounting and reporting experts that undertook this testing. We came up with questions that our audit teams might ask and then evaluated the tool's answers to refine the responses. Once we were comfortable with the generated output, the tool was released for our people to use.
We also shared guidance on how to use the tool effectively, prompt suggestions, and how to validate and verify the output to the identified sources.

ChatAssurance allows my team to identify the accounting requirements that are relevant to the area of the financial statements that they are testing.
An example of this is when the organization was disposing of a part of their business. I asked it, “How to account for and disclose assets held for sale under IFRS?” The tool provided a robust response along with sources from our internal IFRS manual and relevant FAQs.
This helped me to critically assess the proposed accounting and financial statement disclosures, with reference to the relevant section of the standard.
