Ride the Nation - our cycle challenge gets back on the road

Setting the scene

Our charity cycle challenge, Ride the Nation, took to the roads for the second time in June 2017.

Ride the Nation is a cycling relay, with over 600 PwC riders participating in the ride that visits all 30 PwC offices throughout our UK network in one month. The aim is to connect all our PwC offices and people in the UK whilst raising money for the PwC Foundation and charities local to each and every office.

Project leaders Chantal Mutel and Leighton Smith first created Ride the Nation and have again championed this year’s event.

"It doesn't matter what line of service you are, what grade you are, everyone takes part in Ride the Nation, and that's really important to us."

Chantal Mutel, Project leader

What we did

During June, our four National Riders - who completed the full 2,000 mile journey - were joined en route every day by our people from our local offices to cover anything from 25 to 125 miles between one office and another.

Ride the Nation is not just about the riders - it’s solely organised by PwC people, without any external involvement in the organisation of the event, and is brought to life entirely by PwC fundraisers, organisers and supporters, working together to achieve amazing things.

“Ride the Nation 2017 has been truly amazing. As Project Leaders, planning and organising Ride the Nation 2015 and 2017 has meant that we have lived and breathed the event every waking minute for over three years, pouring our hearts and souls into every aspect of it.”

Making a difference

Ride the Nation is famous for being the single largest fundraising event PwC UK has ever undertaken.

Following the success of our first event in 2015, over £293,000 has been raised, and this money goes to our PwC Foundation charities, as well as charities nominated by our local offices.

It’s about our staff pulling together to do amazing things, working as One Firm to do the right thing in every PwC office’s local area, which means it ties into our PwC values. It helps to make a real difference to the communities we work and live in.
