Our purpose: more than just a statement

Words are important. But they’re nothing without actions.

We employ thousands of people, and we work with thousands of organisations that have a direct impact on the lives of millions.

“I believe the true strength of our business continues to be a clear purpose.”

We want our purpose - to build trust in society and solve important problems - to be more than just a statement.

“I think it’s important that we’re able to articulate to our clients how what we do not only makes a difference to them, but what they’re trying to do in terms of their purpose and broader society.”

So we’ve put it at the centre of our strategy. It supports our culture, our values, and how we behave. It helps us run our business, it helps us support our clients…

On top of financial support for our partner charities, we foster more than 350 social enterprises, and help our people to fundraise and volunteer in their local communities.

We know we can’t solve every problem. So we’re using our skills and resources to tackle two: climate change, and inequality.

The worst impacts of climate change will be irreversible by 2030, hitting the world’s poorest, hardest. This is at a time when certain regions and parts of society are already at a significant disadvantage and facing inequalities.

There’s no time to lose. We’re taking action on Environmental, Social and Governance issues, supporting racial equality, social mobility and levelling up in communities. We’re helping to turn business commitments into real action on climate, both for our clients…

… and for ourselves. In the last decade we've cut our carbon emissions by more than 60%, while at the same time growing our business.

But we’re just beginning. We know we need to do more, to help build a future that’s clean, resilient and more equal.
